Keeping Your Employees Safe: How to Implement and Use Laser Enclosures in the Workplace
24 June 2019
Laser enclosures are essential structures to use as barriers for laboratories, operating rooms, laser cutting machines, robots, welding, drilling, etc. Laser enclosures reduce injuries in the workplace.
Barriers do not have to be a room with four walls and a roof (although, this is necessary for some applications). Here are a few options for containing your laser.
- Portable accordion style panels are a great option for mobility. This system provides easy movement and storage to maximize space. It has 360° hinges which makes it easy to maneuver. Available in 3, 5, 7, and 9 panel systems, extending to 25’ W x 6’ 10” H. The panels are maintenance-free and strong. They will not swell, chip, corrode, or peel. However, while this is a great option, please note the panels to do not have a roof. Therefore, scatter from the laser would still be possible.
- Laser blocking curtains can also be used to form a barrier. For instance, this can be done by hanging the curtains from a curtain track. The track can be attached to the ceiling or walls. We also offer a floor mounted track. This is a great option if you have a large space and need to separate it into different areas. We have several options for curtains based on the protection you need. Minimally, we have a curtain that has a laser safety rating of 100 W/cm² for 100 seconds, up to 300W/cm² for 100 seconds.
- Enclosures consist of four walls and a roof. The walls of an enclosure contain the laser within a restricted area. The room limits contaminants such as dust. Humidity and temperature can also be controlled. Laser Cabins are used to enclose laser cutters, robots, welding, noise, etc.
All of our laser enclosures come with FDA Certification, performed by a Board Certified Laser Safety Officer. Certification with the FDA is MANDATORY! We make it simple by offering the enclosure and certification together.
Do you have a conveyor or automation system? No problem. RT Technologies can provide the perfect enclosure based on your specifications. Our enclosures are turn-key and assembled on-site.
Options for all enclosures include:
- Interlock systems
- Wall color?
- Load bearing roof (mezzanine – as seen in the picture above)
- Automatic process door
- And more
In conclusion, keeping your employees safe is key. An enclosure, movable or permanent, is an easy solution.
