Laser Safety Barriers

Laser Barriers

Laser Barriers are needed to protect yourself, your staff, patients, and visitors. We offer laser barriers from the size of a small window, to one that can encompass large airplane components. Many of our laser enclosures are used in industrial laser welding and cutting applications, often in conjunction with automatic process / access equipment doors. See below for further details on our laser barriers.

Laser Barrier Types

When discussing laser safety barriers, it’s essential to understand the type of laser in use. A class IV laser will need a different barrier then a class II laser. The laser material used in our curtains and blinds covers most lasers used in medical facitilities and Universities. If you are not sure of the protection you need, we can help!

RT Technologies provides laser blocking blinds for medical use and for optical laser safety.. This includes laser blinds for hospitals, operating rooms, laboratories, and research facilities.

Our Laser Safety Encapsulated Roller Blinds are made using the same laser-blocking material as the laser curtains. The roller blind is built into a white finish aluminum frame, which encapsulates the top, and both edges of the blind. The encapsulated laser blocking blind eliminates any possibility of laser beams passing around the sides of the blind, blocks out direct light (not blackout), and provides optimal protection. The material is white on one side, and black on the other.  The material is also available with black on both sides.

Protection times given by the material at various power densities are shown in the specifications below.

Laser curtains are designed for use in industry, medical facilities, hospitals and operating rooms. Medical, laboratory,  or industrial laser blocking curtains can be supplied ready-made as ceiling or wall-mounted curtains. The laser blocking material provides ‘World Class’ laser blocking capability while being extremely light weight and flexible, ideal for everything from industrial laser curtains to operating room laser curtains.

The material is white on one side and black on the other side (black on both sides is also available).  The curtains will operate as a blackout screen as well as a laser-blocking screen. Both sides will block laser radiation but if the white side is used as the laser-blocking side, a higher specification of blocking will be achieved — making it suitable for higher power lasers.

Tested in accordance with NFP92-503 (Electrical Burner Test), the material is rated as M2. When irradiated with greater than 50 w/cm² it will emit a non-hazardous smoke and may glow, thus indicating that a stray beam is present. Protection times given by the material at various power densities are shown in the specifications below.

We assist machine integrators and laser users with custom laser containment systems; from table-top laser enclosures to assembly-line configurations, to complete room-size robotic laser enclosures. All laser enclosures are delivered based upon customer specifications, and are tested and FDA certified to 21 CFR 1040, ANSI Z 136, EN 60825-4 (Safety of Laser Products Part 4 – Laser Guards).

Custom Laser Enclosure Projects are designed and managed by our team of laser safety experts; each project is managed by a Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO); each customer laser enclosure is manufactured by our team of production professionals. All laser enclosure projects are routinely reviewed with customers at key milestones.

Foldable laser safety panels have 360 degree hinges that allow you to move and position our barrier according to your needs.  It’s easy to store and takes up less space than most barrier systems.  Choose from one of our standard products, or design a barrier system specific to your laser application.

All foldable panels are made with materials that have a laser safety rating of 1000 W/cm2 for 100 seconds.  Made to withstand direct and diffusely scattered laser light generated by Class 3B or 4 lasers as specified with ANSI: Z 136.1-Section  Contact us for details.

Laser blocking slatted blinds (vision panels) are ideal for use in operating rooms and are effective in blocking all medical lasers.  There is also an option for X-ray shielded vision panels.

Tested in accordance with laser safety standard IEC 60825-4 and designed to fit window and door openings in operating rooms.  This highly effective and professional laser blocking system is idea for hospitals and other facilities where there is a need to guard against the escape of laser beams.

This unit can be installed as a standard fit within the door or window aperture.  It can also be fitted as a flush fit where the surfaces of the unit match those of the aperture edges.

A simple lever operates the slats within the window to either allow or block laser light from penetrating.
