  • FAQ's | RT Technologies

What is the expected coverage area per gallon? Coverage is dependent on surface type, concrete will require more than the same area of steel. Our solutions are water based therefore one gallon of our solution would cover the same amount as a gallon of water. Can you provide a square foot number for steel and concrete? For steel assuming 6ml/sq ft, 450 to 600. Concrete assuming 12ml/ sq ft 200 to 300 or less depending on porosity What is the expected handling of the waste stream? If our solution is used to remove radioactive material the solution will become radioactive and should be handled as such This question is geared towards hazardous materials other than radioactive waste. Can we assume the answer is the solution is not hazardous material on it’s on? The solution is not hazardous on it's ow If the material it is used on is non hazardous is the stream still non hazardous? If the solution picks up radioactive material it may become hazardous. How many Ion Exchange Equivalents of cation and anion is required if the effluent is sent through Ion exchanger? Let’s assume contamination is Cs 137 and Co 60 at 450 uCi/100 cm2. Cs-137, assume specific activity of 87 Ci/g, 450 uCi = approx. 0.000074 mEq. Co-60, assume specific activity of 1150 Ci/g. 450 uCi = approx. 7.6 E-7 mEq. Assume resin capacity of 1 mEq / g . Most resins vary between 2 and 4 mEq / g. Effectiveness of the resin depends on the construction of the column, operating pressure, contamination with non radioactive metals (especially Iron), channeling, etc. Considering all the different factors, the column size should be appropriate for the flow rate desired avoiding excess pressure Can I evaporate the solution down rather than running it through IX? As long as the contamination is not volatile. Has solidification of solution been reviewed? No What’s the second, third, multiple Dfs? Lets assume Cs 137 and Co 60 with surfaces of steel and concrete. First decontamination factor is up-to 100% (varies from 20 to 100%) Second and third applications each remove 10 to 20% of remaining activity. A fourth application is usually ineffective. What is the depth of adsorption? Same as water. What is the amount of bleed back/appearance out of material adsorption? Lets assume stainless steel and concrete Stainless steel virtually non. Concrete up-to 20% depending on porosity What is optimal amount of time following application should second application occur? Reapplication can occur immediately. What substrates have you tried? Stainless steel, painted steel, aluminum various forms and finishes, concrete, wood painted and unfinished, various plastics, etc How much water is required for rewetting? Same volume as initially used minimum. How much liquid is required for removal? Let us assume steel and concrete are the surfaces to be doncontaminated Steel, the decontamination solution can be wiped off and the surface rinsed with an equal volume of de-ionized water. Concrete will require more depending on rinse procedure and pick up ( wet vacuum?).

  • Laser Safety Standards | RT Technologies

Laser Safety Standards Laser use and laser safety go hand in hand. When planning your laser use strategy, it’s integral to consider the ways in which your workplace can achieve safety compliance, both to stay up-to-date with legal standards and to provide your employees and guests with the peace of mind that your workplace is protected and safe. Questions? Contact us! Laser Safety Oversight and Regulatory Classes When discussing the matter of laser safety standards, it’s essential to understand the advisory organizations that regulate such standards. You will also want to familiarize yourself with the various laser classes that are present in your workplace or will be implemented as part of your laser use strategy. ANSI The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) provides a laser safety classification system that groups lasers by type into four (4) different classes, with subclass specifications, to guide laser safety protocol at the workplace level. ANSI laser safety standards evaluate lasers by type and by their potential to inflict potential biological damage if used in an incorrect manner. The ANSI laser safety classifications are then applied to workplace laser safety protocol to help managers create a safe laser use environment for employees and guests. To learn more about laser classifications and workplace-specific guidelines, check out the Laser Institute of America’s repository. Does your workplace need laser safety enclosures to meet ANSI regulations? Our selection of laser enclosures can provide a safe place for laser usage and keep your work area up to the applicable codes. And our laser safety eyewear products can protect your employees and guests from harmful rays they may encounter on your premises. OSHA The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) does not have a classification system of its own and instead relies on the ANSI specifications for laser safety standards. IEC The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is responsible for maintaining laser safety standards and recommendations at the international level. While the focus of the IEC goes well beyond laser safety, it’s important to note how the Commission’s recommendations have shaped laser safety standards for many workplaces and classification systems. The IEC provides laser classifications based upon safety of viewing, as well as other criteria for laser safety. When it comes to compliance for your workplace, you may find a variety of IEC recommendations and regulations come into play, depending on your industry and zone. In order to meet IEC recommendations and regulations, you will want to equip your workplace with laser safety products , such as enclosures and blinds that can protect your employees, guests, and others who use your facility. There is also an option for X-ray shielded vision panels Tested in accordance with Laser safety standard IEC 60825-4 and designed to fit into window and door openings in operating rooms, this highly effective and professional laser blocking system is ideal for hospitals and other facilities where there is a need to guard against the escape of laser beams. The unit can be installed as a standard fit within the door or window aperture or it can be fitted as a flush fit where the surfaces of the unit match those of the aperture edges. A simple lever operates the slats within the window to either allow or block laser light from penetrating. Selecting the double sided lever option enables the blind to be operated from both sides. The system uses 0.24 inch toughened glass in front of the slatted blind to prevent the ingress of dust and infection. There is an option for a motorized version that can be controlled through an interlock control system. The standard fit unit is a fully bonded, semi-hermetic unit that eliminates the need for an unhygienic, metal housing and allows a tight seal to be made between the glass and the beading. It can be positioned either centrally across the door thickness, with a bead either side, or flush on one side with a single bead on the other. It comprises of three panes of glass, two of which have alternating lines of laser blocking material. The central pane can be raised and lowered by a handle so the lines move in or out of alignment and thereby allow fully controlled, discreet vision through the panel. The flush fit vision pane l is specifically designed and manufactured to suit the exact thickness of a door, so once fitted, the surface of the glazing lies completely flush with the door faces. It is sealed to the door with silicone mastic, thus providing a very hygienic detail that has no crevices or ledges for dirt or bacteria to harbour.
