Frequently asked questions about our laser safety products and LED signs. What is the expected coverage area per gallon? Coverage is dependent on surface type, concrete will require more than the same area of steel. Our solutions are water based therefore one gallon of our solution would cover the same amount as a gallon of water. Can you provide a square foot number for steel and concrete? For steel assuming 6ml/sq ft, 450 to 600. Concrete assuming 12ml/ sq ft 200 to 300 or less depending on porosity What is the expected handling of the waste stream? If our solution is used to remove radioactive material the solution will become radioactive and should be handled as such This question is geared towards hazardous materials other than radioactive waste. Can we assume the answer is the solution is not hazardous material on it’s on? The solution is not hazardous on it's ow If the material it is used on is non hazardous is the stream still non hazardous? If the solution picks up radioactive material it may become hazardous. How many Ion Exchange Equivalents of cation and anion is required if the effluent is sent through Ion exchanger? Let’s assume contamination is Cs 137 and Co 60 at 450 uCi/100 cm2. Cs-137, assume specific activity of 87 Ci/g, 450 uCi = approx. 0.000074 mEq. Co-60, assume specific activity of 1150 Ci/g. 450 uCi = approx. 7.6 E-7 mEq. Assume resin capacity of 1 mEq / g . Most resins vary between 2 and 4 mEq / g. Variable Brightness Signs The Ultra range of LED signs incorporates a variable brightness control. By default, the signs are configured to vary their output to match the background illumination. This avoids signs becoming ‘flooded out’ by sunlight or other illumination, or being overly bright in darker conditions. It also means the signs will save power in low light conditions. Alternatively, the signs can be fixed at full brightness or the brightness can be controlled externally by applying a control voltage (0 – 24 VDC). High Quality Backlit LED Signs A high quality display is achieved, using the backlighting technique, which avoids the pixilation effect of matrix LED signs. Unlike matrix signs, complex symbols and shapes can also be displayed – as shown in many of these pictures. Low Voltage Secret LED Sign The signs operate from 24 VDC, which is safer and cheaper to install than mains wiring. The sign is secret when not lit, and the front panel tint is balanced for maximum contrast. Dual Redundancy The signs include a redundancy, in the form of dual LED illuminator boards. Full redundancy can be provided by ordering a second control board (part no: LEDS-ULT-CB). Fitting the second board inside the sign provides complete redundancy in case of LED or control board failure. The sign can then be run from a single supply or dual supplies for highly safety critical applications. Maintenance Free An operation lifetime of 50,000 hours makes the signs virtually maintenance-free. Sizes Ultra signs are available in either Standard or Large Size. Standard size is 18.5 inches wide, while the Large size is 31.1 inches wide. Both options are seven inches high and just one inch thick. Single or Multi Aspect Signs The signs are single aspect but can be connected together to form multi-aspect signs. The LS-20 Laser Safety Shutter is intended to provide a means of preventing accidental exposure to a potentially harmful laser beam. 24V High Integrity Beam Shutter Download Brochure Get a Quote The Lasermet LS-20 Laser Safety Shutter is intended to provide a means of preventing accidental exposure to a potentially harmful laser beam. The unit has been designed to form part of a high-integrity safety system, featuring a gravity-close blade and force-disconnect proving contacts. LS-20 Product Details: Control Functions: When closed, the LS 20 deflects the incoming laser beam onto an internal beam dump where the energy is converted to heat which is dissipated in the aluminum casing of the shutter. When the shutter is open, the laser beam passes through the shutter without interruption. ‘SIL3’ version: when correctly wired to an Interlock Control System (ICS-9 , etc.) , it can provide a safety interlock which meets Safety Integrity Level 3 to EN 61508 Connection to Beam Tube: LS-20 has 16 mm diameter entry and exit apertures. These are threaded and beam tubes can be supplied to fit to the shutter case and enclose the laser beam. High Power Laser Use: The maximum average power for use with the internal beam dump is 20 W. However for higher power lasers, the beam dump can be easily removed by unscrewing it from the side of the shutter case. Beam tubes can be fitted and the beam can be directed to a remote beam dump. This allows the shutter to be used for much higher powers, even for multi-kilowatt lasers. Shutter Blade Options: The shutter blade is made of stainless steel which is sufficient for most applications. However, standard front silvered or dielectric mirrors can be factory fitted to the blade if required. This is generally recommended for average powers in excess of 20W when the remote beam dump option is being used. It may also be advisable when using Q-switched lasers as these can cause some minor ablation of the blade even when the average power is below 20W. Connections: The LS-20 shutter is equipped with an M6 female thread in the base, located under the beam centerline. An anti-rotation slot is also provided in the base into which a second M6 stud should be located to prevent the shutter turning or coming unscrewed. The slot allows for posts on imperial and metric optical breadboards. Laser Beam Power Measurement: When fitted with a mirror, the LS-20 facilitates easy laser beam power measurement. The beam dump can be removed and a laser power meter detector head fitted to the side of the shutter. The box for the sign can be installed by the electrician during ‘first fix’ when the wiring is run. This sign can be fitted during the ‘second fix’ state when the electrical outlets and switches are installed. The sign has a low profile so that it gives a smart almost-flush appearance without having to make a large hole in the wall. It is designed to give a long service life and has no user-replaceable parts inside. Also, power consumption is a minimal 5 watts.
